The following bids, mergers, acquisitions and disposals were reported by 1000 GMT on Wednesday: ** U.S. retailer Dollar General Corp is preparing to go hostile as soon as this week in its bid to purchase rival Family Dollar Stores Inc, taking its $9.1 billion offer directly to shareholders after being spurned twice by its smaller rival, people familiar with the matter said on Tuesday.** Russian indebted coal-to-steel group Mechel OAO is considering selling its core assets and hopes to earn between $2 billion and $3 billion over two or three years, its chief executive Oleg Korzhov told Vedomosti newspaper.

Dollar General Corporation is a discount retailer in the United States by number of stores, with 9,961 stores located in 39 states as of March 2, 2012, primarily in the southern, southwestern, midwestern and eastern United States. Shares of DG traded higher by 0.05% or $0.03/share to $63.42. In the past year, the shares have traded as low as $53.00 and as high as $65.99. Family Dollar Stores, Inc.
