Expedia takes Decolar.com stake as it deepens Latin America ties, (NMS: EXPE), (NYQ: OWW), (NMS: PCLN)

Expedia Inc said on Tuesday it will take a minority stake in Latin American online travel company Decolar.com Inc, expanding its exposure in the region. Expedia has invested $270 million for a stake of under 20 percent of Decolar and has broadened the hotel listings the companies have shared since 2002, Expedia's Chief Financial Officer Mark Okerstrom told investors at a Piper Jaffray & Co conference.The deal marks the latest expansion of Expedia, the world's second-largest online travel company by bookings after the Priceline Group Inc.Driving industry consolidation, Expedia in January purchased Travelocity for $280 million and in February announced plans to acquire Orbitz Worldwide Inc for more than $1.3 billion."Our strategy is very clearly to own and empower the best travel brands that exist in the world," Okerstrom said. Expedia is excited "to develop (its) relationship over time" with Decolar, he added.

Expedia, Inc. is an online travel company. The Company's portfolio of travel brands featuring supply portfolio including more than 260,000 hotels in 200 countries, 400 airlines, packages, rental cars, cruises, as well as destination services and activities. Shares of EXPE fell by 1.33% or $-1.2/share to $89.35. In the past year, the shares have traded as low as $66.93 and as high as $95.00. On average, 2332750 shares of EXPE exchange hands on a given day and today's volume is recorded at 983752.

Orbitz Worldwide, Inc. is a global online travel company (OTC) that uses technology to enable leisure and business travelers to research, plan and book a range of travel products and services. Shares of OWW fell by 0.09% or $-0.01/share to $11.68. In the past year, the shares have traded as low as $6.49 and as high as $11.76. On average, 5243350 shares of OWW exchange hands on a given day and today's volume is recorded at 3259624.

Priceline Group Inc., formerly Priceline.Com Incorporated, provides online travel company that connects consumers wishing to make travel reservations with providers of travel services around the world. Shares of PCLN fell by 2.13% or $-25.91/share to $1191.09. In the past year, the shares have traded as low as $990.69 and as high as $1347.69. On average, 827223 shares of PCLN exchange hands on a given day and today's volume is recorded at 780138.
