Northeast Utitlities to buy NSTAR for $4.2 billion

Shares of NSTAR saw continued buying pressure Monday morning as Northeast Utilities announced it would purchase NSTAR for a $4.2 billion all stock deal. The deal involves an exchange of 1.312 common shares of Northeast Utilities for each NSTAR share. The new company will operate six regulated electric and gas utilities in three states.

NSTAR is a holding company engages through its subsidiaries in the energy delivery business. Northeast Utilities is a public utility holding company engaged in the energy delivery business.
