Dell (NASDAQ: DELL) Dreams Cloud Computing

Dell Inc. announced Tuesday that it will acquire a privately owned cloud-computing services company named Boomi. The terms of the deal are yet to be disclosed.

Boomi integrates cloud computing platforms with salesforce.com (NYSE: CRM) being among its clients. For example, Boomi's AtomSphere "enables Salesforce users to reduce data errors, minimize IT expenditures, and realize their goal of having fully integrated and synchronized customer information across business processes" (from Boomi.com).

Dell believes that this acquisition will improve its ability to provide software over computer networks. Andy Kibbens (Co-CEO of The Markets Are Open) said "Dell is way behind and they are really trying to do anything they can to keep up with their competitors". In fact, Dell's revenue has been on the decline since 2009. Perhaps this will help Dell boost its revenue. Michael Dell is faced with tons of pressure as the shares continue to decline year after year since 2005.

Dell Inc is a holding company which offers a range of products from personal computers to software periphirals, servers, and storage equipment. The stock is down over 63% since its highs in 2005.
