Spanish energy group Iberdrola (IBE.MC) has agreed to buy all the assets of Ashmore Energy International (AEI), including the Brazilian distributor Elektro (EKTR3.SA)(EKTR4.SA), in a deal worth $8 billion, business daily Valor Economico reported on Wednesday. Iberdrola is in exclusive talks with Ashmore, a Cayman Island-based holding company, and has until Jan. 15 to confirm the offer, the daily said. It cited no sources for the information. Besides Elektro, the biggest and most expensive asset, the deal includes energy generators, electricity and natural gas distributors in Latin America, China and Eastern Europe, Valor said.
