BTG Pactual, Brazil's largest independent securities firm, agreed to buy an undisclosed stake in video and home appliance retailer Casa&Video, a source with knowledge of the transaction told Reuters on Wednesday. BTG Pactual [BTG.UL] and Casa&Video shareholders expect to conclude the deal within the next four weeks, said the source, who declined to be cited because talks are private. The source, who said that a letter of intent was signed on Saturday, did not elaborate on terms of the deal. The transaction indicates the growing interest by Brazil's largest financial firms in the nation's growing consumer segment. Casa&Video, which is controlled by a group of investors led by bankruptcy lawyer Fabio Carvalho, has about 70 stores in Rio de Janeiro state.
