Encana Corp (ECA.TO), Canada's largest natural gas producer, has agreed to a joint venture at its Jonah natural gas field in Wyoming, its partner, Northwest Natural Gas Co (NWN.N), said on Friday. Northwest Natural, a Portland, Oregon, natural gas distributor, said in a release that under the terms of the joint venture it will pay $45 million to $55 million per year over five years to cover the cost of drilling new wells in parts of the Jonah field for a total expected investment of $250 million. In exchange for funding the drilling, the company will earn an interest in some sections of the field.
