General Electric Co , the largest U.S. conglomerate, said its oil and gas unit will buy the well support division of British energy services firm John Wood Group for about $2.8 billion. Earlier in February, John Wood said it was looking into the possible sale of its well support unit, which helps energy companies improve production rates and recovery from oil and gas wells. Sources previously told Reuters the company had put the division on the block and had hired Credit Suisse to advise on the sale.
