Two U.S. healthcare-focused real estate investment trusts struck multibillion-dollar deals on Monday, taking advantage of relatively high stock prices to pick up new properties. Ventas Inc (VTR.N) agreed to buy Nationwide Health Properties (NHP) (NHP.N) for $5.8 billion in a stock deal that strengthens its position as the biggest U.S. owner of senior housing and assisted living facilities. And Health Care REIT Inc (HCN.N) said it will buy all the real estate assets of privately owned Genesis Healthcare for $2.4 billion, funding most of the purchase by selling new common and preferred stock.
