Australia's Foxtel in talks with Austar shareholder on payTV bid

Australian pay-TV operator Foxtel has talked to rival Austar's main shareholder, Liberty Global , about a potential takeover offer, Austar said on Wednesday, amid reports it was the target of a potential $2 billion bid. Austar shares rallied 25 percent after it confirmed Foxtel and Liberty had spoken about a possible acquisition but said it had not received a bid. "Austar understands that verbal discussions have taken place between Foxtel and Liberty in relation to a possible acquisition of Austar," Austar said in a statement.
