Portugal Telecom (PTC.LS) obtained on Monday direct and indirect control of 25.6 percent of the capital of Brazilian telecom group Oi (TMAR5.SA)(TNLP4.SA), as part of a massive capital injection, according to a regulatory filing on Monday. In a separate statement, the Lisbon-based company, which last year agreed to pump 8.32 billion reais ($5 billion) into Oi, said that the operating unit of Oi, known as Tele Norte Leste Participacoes TLNP4.SA cut its net debt by 6 billion reais after the capital plan.
