Repsol beefs up Alaskan holdings, (REP)

Spanish oil group Repsol said on Monday it had signed a deal with two U.S. oil groups to take controlling stakes in Alaskan blocks they own, beefing up its exposure to the environmentally sensitive but oil-rich area. Repsol (REP.MC) acquired the stake from two Denver-based companies GMT Exploration and Armstrong Oil and Gas Inc, who have spent 10 years exploring Alaska's North Slope, the Spanish oil major said. Spain's largest oil company has turned around its declining reserves in the last few years thanks to oil and gas strikes in Brazil, the Caribbean, and West Africa, and is rolling out an aggressive exploration portfolio for 2011.
