Russian mobile operator Vimpelcom (VIP.N) said there was no need to sell telecom assets in Pakistan or Bangladesh to gain regulatory approval for its $6-billion-plus purchase of Wind Telecom. Vimpelcom's cash-and-shares deal will give it control of Orascom Telecom (ORTE.CA), which has units in Pakistan and Bangladesh among other operations. Vimpelcom's minority owner Telenor (TEL.OL) also has operations in the two Asian states, which could create regulatory issues. Asked if Vimpelcom would need to sell assets in Pakistan or Bangladesh, Chief Executive Alexander Izosimov told reporters: "There is no sell-off needed."
