Bain, Telenor join forces for Polkomtel-source, (TEL), (NYSE: BX), (VOD)

Norway's Telenor (TEL.OL) and Bain Capital have teamed up to pursue Polish mobile phone company Polkomtel, a person familiar with the matter said, leaving five shortlisted bids in the $6 billion auction. Private equity firm KKR KKR.UL and joint bidders TPG TPG.UL and Blackstone (BX.N) have already dropped out of the process, which could value Polkomtel as up to 18 billion zlotys ($6.6 billion). Binding bids for the business are due on May 6. Vodafone (VOD.L) and Polish state-controlled firms KGHM KGHM.WA, PKN Orlen PKNA.WA, PGE PGEP.WA and Weglokoks are selling Polkomtel.
