Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper said on Wednesday he would be very worried if a Chinese state-owned enterprise bid for a Canadian resource firm and the offer did not appear to have commercial aims. China is showing increasing interest in Canada, which has significant reserves of oil and minerals. Harper stressed he was not referring to any specific takeover bid launched by a Chinese entity. This week, Minmetals Resources (1208.HK), China's biggest metals trading firm, said it wanted to buy Canadian company Equinox Minerals (EQN.AX)(EQN.TO). Most of Equinox's assets are outside Canada.
