Chip technology developer Tessera Technologies Inc said it is looking at a possible separation of its imaging and optics business, including a spin-off. The company, which licenses patents to design chips for mobile phones, computers and other electronic products, said it has retained GCA Savvian Advisors to advise it on the possible spin-off and other alternatives. In the company's latest annual report, Tessera had said the imaging and optics business -- which provides cheap, high-quality camera functionality in consumer electronic products -- is steadily contributing to its main business.
