Exelon to purchase gas-fired plant for $305 mln, (U)

Power company Exelon Corp said it will pay $305 million to purchase a 720 megawatts natural gas-fired power plant in north Texas as part of its plans to add more clean power generation to its fleet. The deal to buy Wolf Hollow, a combined-cycle natural gas-fired power plant from Sequent Wolf Hollow, will add to Exelon's existing three other natural gas-fired power plants in the competitive Electric Reliability Council of Texas market. "Forthcoming EPA (U.S. Environmental Protection Agency) clean air rules will make Exelon's natural gas-fired power plants even more valuable and increase our role in the nation's transition to a clean energy future." Chief Executive John Rowe said in a statement. Chicago-based Exelon expects the deal to add to its free cash flow in 2012.
