The chief executive of Canadian grain handler Viterra (VT.TO) failed to comment on Wednesday when asked about possible interest in acquiring GrainCorp (GNC.AX), a leading Australian grain handler that is speculated to be a takeover target. CEO Mayo Schmidt, responding to a question at an investor conference in New York, said Australia's grain industry is in consolidation mode and Viterra plans to be a player.
