Deutsche Boerse's (DB1Gn.DE) works council on Wednesday urged shareholders to reject a deal with NYSE Euronext (NYX.N), saying the combination poses a threat to the German exchange operator's business model. In a statement released a day ahead of Deutsche Boerse's annual general meeting, labour representatives said the current deal was not in the interest of shareholders.The lack of support by labour representatives is not enough to block the merger but undermines Deutsche Boerse's campaign to convince German regulators that a deal strengthens Frankfurt as a financial centre. The deal also comes as Deutsche Boerse is seeking to trump a rival offer for NYSE Euronext from IntercontinentalExchange Inc (ICE.N) and Nasdaq (NDAQ.O).
