French nuclear company Areva has signed a $500 million contract with Xcel Energy in the United States to supply its Monticello nuclear power plant with fuel and services. The contract covers uranium, conversion, enrichment, fuel design and fabrication, Areva said in a statement on Wednesday. It is the first of a kind awarded by a nuclear utility to a fuel supplier in the country in several decades, it said.
Xcel Energy Inc. (Xcel Energy) is a holding company with subsidiaries engaged in the utility business. Shares of XEL fell by 0.35% or $-0.095/share to $27.24. In the past year, the shares have traded as low as $21.20 and as high as $27.93. On average, 2556610 shares of XEL exchange hands on a given day and today's volume is recorded at 752832.
