Deals of the day -- mergers and acquisitions, (NYSE: BRY), (NASDAQ: LINE)

The following bids, mergers, acquisitions and disposals were reported by 2100 GMT on Thursday:** U.S. oil and gas producer Linn Energy LLC will purchase Berry Petroleum Co for $2.5 billion in stock, raising its output by about a third and boosting its oil reserves in Texas, California, Colorado and Utah.** Business software maker Compuware Corp, which has rejected a $2.3 billion bid by an activist investor, is exploring a sale and talking to takeover firms to gauge takeover interest, four people familiar with the matter said.

Shares of BRY traded higher by 19.25% or $7.43/share to $46.02. In the past year, the shares have traded as low as $30.21 and as high as $57.26. Linn Energy, LLC (LINN Energy) is an independent oil and natural gas company. Shares of LINE traded higher by 2.81% or $1.03/share to $37.68.
