India court rejects Nokia appeal over asset transfer to Microsoft, (NYSE: RDS-B), (NASDAQ: VOD)

India's Supreme Court on Friday ordered Nokia to give a 35 billion rupees ($572.5 million) guarantee before it transfers one of its biggest mobile phone plants and other assets in the country to Microsoft Corp.The ruling upheld a lower court verdict over the plant in Chennai, which is the subject of a tax dispute, and had been challenged by the Finnish company.Nokia's case is one of several high-profile tax disputes involving foreign companies in India. Vodafone Group Plc , IBM and Royal Dutch Shell Plc are among foreign firms contesting local tax claims.Nokia, which is selling its mobile phones business to Microsoft in a 5.4 billion euro ($7.5 billion) deal, last month appealed to the Supreme Court saying the Delhi High Court had imposed new conditions over the transfer after previously lifting a freeze.

Shares of RDS-B fell by 1.78% or $-1.38/share to $75.99. In the past year, the shares have traded as low as $65.02 and as high as $80.07. On average, 1099830 shares of RDS-B exchange hands on a given day and today's volume is recorded at 515795.

Vodafone Group Plc (Vodafone) is a mobile communications company. Shares of VOD fell by 2.0% or $-0.76/share to $37.20. In the past year, the shares have traded as low as $27.54 and as high as $42.14. On average, 11997800 shares of VOD exchange hands on a given day and today's volume is recorded at 10348957.
