Devon buys 50,000 shale acres for $249 million cash, (NYSE: DVN), (NYSE: XEC)

Devon Energy Corp on Tuesday said it acquired 50,000 acres and some production in the Cana-Woodford Shale in Oklahoma for $249 million in cash from Cimarex Energy Co. The deal includes current production of 5,800 barrels of oil equivalent per day, Devon said.

Devon Energy Corporation (Devon) is an independent energy company engaged primarily in the exploration, development and production of oil, natural gas and natural gas liquids (NGLs). Shares of DVN fell by 0.23% or $-0.16/share to $70.19. In the past year, the shares have traded as low as $51.66 and as high as $72.41. On average, 3407160 shares of DVN exchange hands on a given day and today's volume is recorded at 2708738.

Cimarex Energy Co. is an oil and gas exploration and production company. Shares of XEC fell by 0.12% or $-0.15/share to $120.00. In the past year, the shares have traded as low as $62.98 and as high as $124.49. On average, 1210700 shares of XEC exchange hands on a given day and today's volume is recorded at 1176612.
