Cisco sets $1 billion investment for global cloud computing network, (NASDAQ: CSCO), (NASDAQ: EQIX)

Cisco Systems will invest $1 billion over two years to expand its cloud offerings, the company said on Monday, linking hundreds of data centers and cloud providers around the world in a network with more than 30 partners. The network, called Intercloud, will help businesses process and manage data generated from billions of devices and applications around the world, Cisco said.Businesses in the network aim to bridge the gap between public and private cloud computing and will share cloud infrastructure the same way mobile telecommunications companies have roaming agreements.With partners including Deutsche Telekom, BT group and Equinix Inc, Cisco said it will add 250 data centers in 50 countries to its cloud network.Intercloud will also allow companies to direct data traffic through specific clouds and data centers. This will help international businesses deal with foreign regulations requiring companies to house data collected from its citizens in local data centers.

Cisco Systems, Inc. Shares of CSCO traded higher by 1.87% or $0.46/share to $25.00. In the past year, the shares have traded as low as $20.22 and as high as $26.08. On average, 25528100 shares of CSCO exchange hands on a given day and today's volume is recorded at 29864354.

Equinix, Inc. (Equinix) connects businesses with partners and customers worldwide through a global platform of data centers. Shares of EQIX traded higher by 1.67% or $3.45/share to $209.71. In the past year, the shares have traded as low as $152.82 and as high as $224.48. On average, 565845 shares of EQIX exchange hands on a given day and today's volume is recorded at 587950.
