Lorillard subsidiaries sue Zippo in the UK over blu e-cig, (NYSE: LO), (NYSE: RAI)

Lorillard Inc said two of its e-cigarette subsidiaries sued Zippo Manufacturing Co in the United Kingdom to protect itself from Zippo's claims of trademark infringement regarding the blu brand of e-cigarettes. Cygnet UK Trading Ltd, a subsidiary of the U.S. tobacco giant has faced criticism for its blu e-cigarettes as it allegedly creates trademark confusion with lighter and fuel products sold by Zippo.Last month, a German court ordered Cygnet to stop selling the blu e-cigarettes in that country, citing patent infringement.The blu e-cigarettes business is being sold to Imperial Tobacco Group Plc as part of Lorillard's $27.4 billion merger with Reynolds American Inc.Cygnet and the other unit, Lorillard Technologies Inc, filed for an injunction and declarations with the High Court of Justice in London, Lorillard said on Wednesday.

Lorillard, Inc. (Lorillard), through its subsidiaries, is engaged in the manufacture and sale of cigarettes and electronic cigarettes. Shares of LO fell by 0.25% or $-0.15/share to $59.37. In the past year, the shares have traded as low as $42.02 and as high as $67.46. On average, 3573760 shares of LO exchange hands on a given day and today's volume is recorded at 2147336.

Reynolds American Inc. (RAI) is a holding company. Shares of RAI fell by 0.14% or $-0.08/share to $59.00. In the past year, the shares have traded as low as $46.55 and as high as $63.39. On average, 2350940 shares of RAI exchange hands on a given day and today's volume is recorded at 1621049.
