Telecoms tycoon Niel to purchase Orange Switzerland for $2.9 billion, (NYSE: ORAN), (NYSE: TMUS)

Telecoms tycoon Xavier Niel's NJJ Capital has agreed to purchase Swiss mobile operator Orange Switzerland from private equity group Apax Partners for 2.8 billion Swiss francs ($2.9 billion), Apax said in a statement. The deal, struck through his NJJ Capital personal holding company, marks a new turn for Niel.He triggered a price war in France through the launch of Free, a bundled telecoms and TV offering, by his 55 percent-owned listed company Iliad, but he had to abandon in October his attempt to enter the American market when the owners of T-Mobile US rejected his offer.($1 = 0.9771 Swiss francs)

Orange SA, formerly France Telecom SA, is a France-based company that is engaged, principally, in the provision of integrated telecommunications services. Shares of ORAN fell by 0.36% or $-0.06/share to $16.74. In the past year, the shares have traded as low as $11.82 and as high as $18.05. On average, 638502 shares of ORAN exchange hands on a given day and today's volume is recorded at 1930066.

Shares of TMUS traded higher by 2.16% or $0.53/share to $25.10. In the past year, the shares have traded as low as $24.26 and as high as $35.50. On average, 5048430 shares of TMUS exchange hands on a given day and today's volume is recorded at 9133665.
