Egyptian tycoon Naguib Sawiris said on Tuesday the more than $6 billion sale of telecoms assets to Russian mobile operator Vimpelcom (VIP.N) has "a very big chance" of going ahead, despite shareholder opposition. Vimpelcom's board approved a plan to buy control of Orascom Telecom (ORTE.CA) and Italian operator Wind from Sawiris in exchange for cash and shares, despite persistent opposition from major Vimpelcom shareholder Telenor (TEL.OL). Telenor vowed to vote against the deal in a March 17 shareholders meeting and demanded its pre-emptive rights be safeguarded in the sale of new shares. [ID:nLDE70G08I]
