Encana Corp (ECA.TO), Canada's largest natural gas producer, said on Thursday its quarterly operating earnings fell 82 percent and it posted a net loss as weak selling prices weighed on its results. Even so the company's shares rose more than 6 percent before the regular trading hours after it said it would sell half of a prolific British Columbia shale gas project to PetroChina (0857.HK) for C$5.4 billion. [ID:nN09296031] The deal, announced late on Wednesday, marks the largest Chinese investment in a Canadian energy asset yet.
