WRAPUP 1-Eli Lilly to purchase J&J's animal health business

Eli Lilly & Co offered to buy the animal health division of Johnson & Johnson's subsidiary Janssen Pharmaceutica for an undisclosed sum, signaling further consolidation in the segment. Separately, Lextron Inc agreed on Monday to acquire rival Animal Health International for $111 million in cash to form one of the largest animal health businesses, the companies said. The acquisitions are the latest in a string of deals by larger players. Sanofi-Aventis last year announced a joint venture with Merck & Co , but delayed it to the third-quarter of this year.
