Iberdrola in $8 bln deal to buy AEI assets-report, (IBE)

Spanish energy group Iberdrola (IBE.MC) has agreed to buy all the assets of Ashmore Energy International (AEI), including the Brazilian distributor Elektro (EKTR3.SA) (EKTR4.SA), in a deal worth $8 billion, business daily Valor Economico said on Wednesday. The Spanish company declined to comment on the report except to say in a brief statement, "Iberdrola denies it has signed an agreement to buy Ashmore Energy International for about $8 billion." It is not the first time that Iberdrola, which is expanding its footprint in Brazil, has been tipped as being interested in Elektro. A source familiar with the matter told Reuters in August that Iberdrola's Brazilian affiliate Neoenergia had lodged a bid for Elektro in a deal valued at about $4 billion [ID:nN13190976].
