Deals of the day- Mergers and acquisitions, (NYSE: T)

The following bids, mergers, acquisitions and disposals were reported by Monday 1000 GMT: ** Britain's AstraZeneca rejected a sweetened and "final" offer of about 70 billion pounds ($118 billion) from Pfizer, casting serious doubt on the U.S. drugmaker's plan for a merger to create the world's biggest pharmaceuticals group.Aberdeen Asset Management, a leading investor in AstraZeneca, said that Pfizer had room to improve its 55-pounds-per-share offer for its British rival.** AT&T Inc plans to pay $48.5 billion to purchase DirecTV , in the latest sign that the wireless industry and the U.S. television market are set to converge as customers consume more video on their mobile devices.
